Friendswood High School science teacher Theresa Lawrence has won runner up in the Texas Medical Association (TMA) 2015 TMA Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching. The award is given to exceptional science teachers who exhibit a personal commitment and enthusiasm for teaching in any area of science.
Lawrence has been teaching at FHS for 13 years. This year her classes include Independent Study and Mentorship Science Fair class, Pre-AP chemistry and AP chemistry.
She has won the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston Teacher of the Year twice and the school district’s Making a Difference award twice.
“Theresa Lawrence is an exceptional teacher at FHS. She does great work and we are so proud of her receiving this award. Her dedication to our Science program helps make it a stellar department,” FHS Principal Mark Griffon said.
