Two Friendswood High School Academic Decathlon Team members have been selected to participate in the USAD National Individual Competition in Anchorage, Alaska. Seniors, Joseph Rasmussen Jr. and Rainer Horn will be competing against Decathletes from all over the United States at the prestigious competition April 25– 31.
United States Academic Decathlon is an organization whose mission is to promote learning and academic excellence among students of varying achievement levels. Students around the nation compete in multidisciplinary academic competitions using the Academic Decathlon curriculum. This year’s topic was India.
Rasmussen and Horn qualified for the National competition after achieving high nationally ranking objective scores at the State 6A Competition in Dallas last month. Joseph earned second place in Art, third place in Science and third place in Mathematics.
Rainer earned second place in Mathematics and third place in Science. However, qualifying for Nationals was no easy feat. Only nine students from the entire country are chosen in each of the three levels. We are so proud of their accomplishments and the quality of their character.
If you would like to make a tax deductible donation for their travel and expenses, we would so appreciate it. The support of this community for academic competition has helped us to excel and grow our program. Any checks can be sent to FHS Academic Decathlon, 702 Greenbriar, Friendswood, Texas, 77546, Attn: Renae Simons.
