Two Friendswood High School students participated in the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair held April 1-2 in San Antonio, TX. UTSA, Exxon-Mobil and the Texas Workforce Commission are major sponsors of the science fair.
Junior, Sarah Palmer placed 2nd in the Energy-Physical category with her project “Optimizing Small-scale Bladeless Wind Turbines (Year 4)”. Sarah also won a $200 cash award from The Society of American Military Engineers, San Antonio Post.
Junior, Madeleine Thompson placed 2nd in the Animal Sciences category with her project “Small Shrimp, Big Bucks – A Cost Effective Approach to Making a Regenerative Artemia Culture”.
Both students also qualified to attend the Governor’s Science and Technology Champions Academy to be held at Texas A&M University in July.
Karan Jerath, 2015 FHS graduate and 2015 Intel ISEF Young Scientist Award Winner, served as one of the keynote speakers for the award ceremony. Astronaut Charlie Duke also addressed the audience.
