The Hunchback of Notre Dame is adapted from Victor Hugo’s epic tale of hope, love and passion, with book by Peter Parnell and music by composer Alan Menken (Newsies) and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), soars to life in this wonderful retelling of the celebrated classic.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a love story of the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda, the scorned bell-ringer Quasimodo and the dashing Captain Phoebus.

Director Kathy Powdrell says “We started the selection process in April 2017. Dr. Kennedy’s tradition was to make careful title choices and then to keep it a secret until the Principal announced during a school day. It is always an ANTICIPATED reveal. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a powerful rendition of the timeless tale and the perfect musical to celebrate the power of FHS Musical in our students lives, the Friendswood High School tradition and an exciting NEW show to celebrate Dr. Myrlene Kennedy’s legacy here at FHS Musical.”

FHS Musical Students will create fifteenth-century Paris and inside the cathedral walls made famous by Victor Hugo’s novel.

An FHS 50th Musical Celebration for alumnus is in the works with many ways to remember and honor such an outstanding Fine Arts Tradition here at Friendswood High School.
