This past weekend the mighty Mustang swim team kicked off the 2018-19 swim season with their annual FISD Sprint Kickoff meet at the FHS Natatorium. 8 total teams were here competing in this meet, Clear Brook, Alvin, Pearland, Clear Creek, Clear Springs, Clear Lake, Clear Falls & FHS Mustangs. Results were tremendous for our 1st meet of the season. The meet kicked off with the diving competition on Friday 10/5 night. Lily Ellis for the Mustang girls took 1st place and established a new pool & team record for 6 dives with 253.40 points. On the boys side, Mustangs Gabriel Costa placed 2nd with a score of 242.85 and John Keith placed 3rd with a score of 161.30. Outstanding diving Mustangs!
Saturday 10/6 the swim portion of the Sprint Kickoff Meet was also very successful for the FHS Mustang swimmers. With close to 300 swimmers competing in the swim portion, Mustang swimmers were either winning their events or finishing in the top 8 places. Top swimmers for the girls were Olivia Theall, Alison Proulx, Ana McHenry, Mara White and newcomers Lezli Sisung, Leah Givens and Abigail Nelson leading the way in scoring for their individual events and relays.
All of the rest of the girls had fantastic swims too in their events dropping time and establishing new personal best times in events. As a result of this great swimming the girls team took 1st place in the swim/dive FISD Sprint Kickoff meet. The boys team had a very successful day also. All boy swimmers were establishing new personal best times and swimming great, also finishing in many of the events top 8 finisher times. Top swimmers for the boys team that help get most of the team points were Max Hardt, Josh Haffelder, Vinnie Gangitano, Joe Sloan, Nick Jankowski and newcomers T.J. Sisung and Nathan Haney. The boys team did fall a few points short to Clear Creek for 1st place and finished 2nd place. Overall it was a great start to a very promising season for the Friendswood H.S. 2018-19 swim season. Coach Whitsett and myself are very pleased with the results and are very excited about the upcoming swim/dive season.
