Seven pieces of art from students in Friendswood ISD were taken by Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art judges to be put on display during rodeo days in Houston.
The selections were part of juried art show that brought the Rodeo Art Judges to Friendswood High School recently where they examined elementary through secondary works from the FISD campuses.
Eight pieces were awarded various ribbons and will be on exhibit in the Hayloft Gallery at NRG Stadium from February 25 – March 17, 2019.
Three FHS students had work that was awarded. Sophomore, Micaela Nelson received Best of Show (art featured below) with Gold Medals being given to freshman, Shriya Alli, junior, Deniz Eren.
Friendswood Junior High had two artists who were honored. Eighth grade student Averi Horman received Best of Show with Abigail Jansky, eighth grade student, receiving a Gold Medal award.
Two Elementary students received awards. Ava Kate Harrison, fourth grader, received Best of Show with 1st grader Rilee Huynh receiving a Gold Medal.
Art teachers include, Jenifer Sundrla at Windsong, Audrye Williams at Bales, McKenna Giamfortone at Westwood, Vicki Berk and Stefanee Cibulski at FJH, and Mary Wise and Mandy Harris at FHS.
The seven rodeo artists from FISD will be honored with Celebration of Excellence Awards at the Feb. 11 School Board meeting.
FHS Sophomore Micaela Nelson won Best in Show for her painting and will be displayed along with other Rodeo Art winners in the Hayloft Gallery at NRG Stadium from February 25- March 17.
"(Sophomore) Micaela Nelson and (Freshman) Shriya Alli have made it to auction!! This is an amazing accomplishment!! There are over 300,000 entries from the Houston area and they usually only choose between 60-70 pieces to auction. We are so excited for them! The auction will take place on Sunday, February 17," said FHS Art Teacher Mandy Harris.
