Convo Photo BoothThe auditorium at Friendswood High School was filled with excitement on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 7 as 840 Friendswood ISD employees kicked off the start of a new school year at Convocation.

The event got off to a great start with Superintendent Thad Roher recognizing new employees, including a few FHS alumni. Following a short introduction, he asked the families of astronauts Drew Morgan and Nick Hague to join him on stage to lead the crowd in the pledge of allegiance. In another tribute to America, the FHS choir performed the National Anthem to roll into the message for the year.

Before Roher began his speech, he played a short video created by the FISD Communication Department which emphasized how Friendswood is small but mighty. That led into Roher’s speech about his hopes for the year.

He said he hoped teachers would inspire their students to go “out of the blue” and “into the new,” ready for anything life throws at them. He emphasized the power of small actions and how their impact can last a lifetime.

With that, Convocation concluded and everyone departed for their campuses to prepare even further for the start of school.
