Boys Basketball Clinch Playoff Spot

WebmasterFHS Athletics, High School News

“On Tuesday night, the boys needed to win at GCM, to clinch the 4th and final playoff spot for 22-5A.  After some crazy sub-varsity games, the boys came out and FLAT OUT DOMINATED GCM.  The Mustangs, who were led by the stellar play of Cole Kelly (18 pts), came out on fire to start the first quarter.  For the first time all season, the Mustangs were clicking in all areas for the entire game (this includes the making of FT’s).  At the end of 1, the Mustangs led 19-5.  I know what you are thinking, 19 points?, he lying.  It is true.  Our great defense led to easy offense.  Gracen McGregor (11 pts) was dishing out assists that were so pretty, that even the Sistine Chapel would be jealous.  Both teams scored 10 each in the second, and as a result, the Mustangs took a 29-15 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the Mustang lead reached as large as 22, but never fell below 10.  In the end, the Mustangs won 56-41 to clinch on the road.  Savion Skeete (10 pts) was the other double digit scorer for the mustangs, but his biggest presence was felt on the glass.  With the win, the Mustangs improved to 19-15, and 8-6 in district play.  Playoff information for Tuesday’s game vs. #8 Port Arthur Memorial is below.

The Freshman B team were able to close out the district season undefeated in district!  The JV, Soph., and A teams all fought hard, but ultimately came up short.  We are waiting on results from a couple other Sophomore and JV games, to determine if our teams have won district.  The Freshman A finished 3rd in district play.  All of our sub-varsity STUDENT-Athletes, battled all year long, and all of them improved throughout the year.
