Mustangs Stun Crosby 56-53

basketball“To quote the great Michael Scott, ‘I am not superstitious, but I’m a little ‘stitious’.  Last night, we as coaches, pulled out all the stitions in order to get a big win against the Cougars from Crosby.  Coach Moore wore red, Coach Marburger got sick, I only chewed gum on the left side of my mouth, Coach Blankenship benched 375 instead of 300, Coach Tucker got a “go get em” dad from his newborn son, and Mr. Griffon and Coach Koopmann got in on the act by turning up the A/C to make sure the boys stayed warm throughout the night.  The most important thing of all, we changed the all important white board marker from black to pink.

If the UIL and district 22-5A were smart, they would save everyone some time and start the game giving us a nine-point lead with a minute left.  For anyone who has attended a home basketball game in the last couple of weeks, you would know that anything goes in that last minute.  It usually involves us missing free throws, and the other team hitting dagger 3’s or scoring quickly to cut the lead.  Last night was no different.  With multiple opportunities to put the game away in the final seconds, the Mustangs went into the final defensive possession hoping to get that all important stop to win the game.  Fortunately, the Cougars missed the three, and the boys were able to rebound and dribble out the clock.  Hudson Bockart (Sr.) and Savion Skeete (Sr.) led the Mustangs with 13.  Cole Kelly (Jr.) had 12.  With the win, the Mustangs are back to .500 in district.  Galena Park beat Goose Creek Memorial, so now we are back in sole possession of 4th place.

Friday’s game will be Senior Night at Walter Wilson Field House.  We will be honoring our seniors in our last home game of the season.  Feel free to come out and recognize these fine young men.  Below, you will see the current standings for 22-5A.

With a BIG win last night, the Freshman B clinched the 22-5A B Team Championship.  If you see any of those fine young men, feel free to give them a good solid high five.  The JV and Freshman A fought hard, but ultimately came up short.”
