Dear Mustang Families,
“What is being seen in education during these times is anything but common. It is a level of togetherness with a singular focus on our most precious future – our kids. Thank you for being an integral piece of that focus! Our focus continues to be connecting with students!
Most school’s curriculum was not crafted to be online or distance learning experiences.
Teachers, staff and students are accustomed to in-person curriculum. None of us had the opportunity to be prepared for this change in what can be called emergency remote learning (A.J. Juliani). And yet, here we are, everyone doing their best to make this works. This is hard work, but together we are making it happen!
While we remain sensitive and empathetic to the challenges that remote learning has brought to our students and families, FISD is faced with balancing this culture of sensitivity and the graduation guidelines and expectations outlined by the state regarding evidence of instructional continuity. In honoring this balance, FISD is committed to a process of final grade calculation that will not allow for a student’s grade performance this nine weeks to negatively impact their overall GPA. Your student’s commitment in this process will be to understand that their participation in remote learning is necessary for end of the year credit/course completion.
FISD will finalize these processes as the timelines for remote learning are extended. During this time, it is imperative that you continue to use Skyward to monitor your student’s participation and performance as their commitment to participation will be an integral piece of the plan for second semester grade calculations.
In an effort to provide an additional layer of communication, progress reports based on student work submissions will be posted in Skyward on April 15. You will be notified by email when this report has been loaded to your student’s portfolio; however, we encourage you to continue monitoring progress in Skyward as teachers are continuing to post grades on submitted work. To support communication remember to check and make sure your email notification in Skyward is turned on.
As learning continues in this fashion, teachers will continue loading weekly lessons and activities for the courses they teach to their Canvas pages by 9am on Monday mornings. The posted teacher’s connection times will remain to provide the opportunity for the increasingly important communication piece. We also wanted to let you know that Summer School at FHS will take place either online or using our traditional format. Please look for instructions to register for Summer School online in the coming weeks. We are here for you; please let us know how we can support you!”
